Complete guidelines for preparing and submitting your manuscript to this journal are provided below.
Please note that this journal publishes manuscripts in Portuguese and English. All articles written in Portuguese should comply with the rules relating to the 2009 Portuguese orthographic agreement.
Political Observer accepts the following types of article: original articles. Book reviews should examine recent literature, being the publication no longer than two years old. Once the articles are submitted to the evaluation process, at no time they may be submitted to other journals.
Preparing Your Paper
Your paper should be compiled in the following order: title page; abstract; keywords; main text introduction, materials and methods, results, discussion; acknowledgments; declaration of interest statement; references; appendices (as appropriate); table(s) with caption(s) (on individual pages); figures; figure captions (as a list).
A typical paper for this journal should be no more than 6000 words, inclusive of endnotes and references.
Book reviews should be no more than 2,000 words.
Please refer to these guidelines when preparing your paper, rather than any published articles or a sample copy.
Any spelling style is acceptable so long as it is consistent within the manuscript.
Please use single quotation marks, except where ‘a quotation is “within” a quotation’. Please note that long quotations should be indented without quotation marks.
Formatting and Templates
At no time may the author identify himself or provide any information that allows his identification, under penalty of being excluded from the process. In this sense, information regarding the author should only be included in the template available HERE.
Citations from third-party sources must comply with current copyright laws in accordance with Ethical Standards.
Please use the APA style 6th edition, when preparing your paper.
Submitting Your Paper
It is mandatory to fulfill the following “commitment of honor” by the author in the act of sending the paper, in which he affirms that he agrees with the publication standards and Ethical Standards and ensures compliance. To this end the author shall, in the e-mail, reproduce te following text completing the missing data:
“I, _____________________, as the author of the text entitled ___________________________, declare to know and accept the” publication rules “of the Portuguese Journal of Political Science, and to comply with the template provided, available on the date at http://www.observatoriopolitico.pt/instructions-for-authors. I accept the understanding of the abovementioned rules and their function as a criterion for excluding the article if they are not fulfilled. “.
The submitted papers will be, on first instance, analysed by the editorial board and may be rejected or subjected to peer review process. The acceptable papers are then subjected to one or two referees through a blind review system of pairs. The final decision about publication of the proposed paper will be taken by the editorial board, considering the opinions of the referees. The scientific review of the book reviews rests with the editorial board.
The authors, individual or collective, of the papers published confer the exclusive right of publication to the Political Observer, and the paper may suffer some changes and revisions of form in the purpose of adapting it to the editorial style of Political Observer.
The authors, individual or collective, of the papers published receive two copies of the issue. The authors, individual or collective, of the book reviews receive one copy of the issue. If requested, they can also be provided of a copy in PDF format.
