About the Political Observatory

The Political Observatory is a non-profit scientific research association for political studies. After being founded in 2009 by the Scientific Board of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities of the New University of Lisbon, the Political Observatory has gained autonomy and now it is defined as an independent research center of excellence.

The Observatory develops research about structure dynamics and political processes, political elite formations, changes in social and political structures, as well as articulations between political power and civil society.

Being independent from party structures, political power and sovereignty bodies, the Political Observatory has committed itself to a sustained development of study platforms – analysis and research focusing on politics -, perpetrating a wide cooperation with the society and the media, as well science and technology.

Nowadays, the Observatory has over 80 researchers (PhDs and associates), as well as its members and a wide and multicultural scientific board, who together constitute a vast group of academics of Political Science. This group aims at developing the study and the analysis of national and international politics.
